For the past 22 years, New Trier High School and its band director, John Thomson, have been inviting area colleges and high school bands to share in the joy of music making in a March concert. This year, the Lake Zurich High School band has been invited to play a joint concert with the New Trier High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble on Friday, March 17, beginning at 7:30 p.m., in the New Trier High School main performance auditorium. Tickets are only $2 at the door. Following the concert will be a reception given by the New Trier Fine Arts Booster for Lake Zurich students and guests.

Lake Zurich High School Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Joshua Thompson, will perform Lincolnshire Posy by Percy Grainger, Divertimento by Roger Cichy, National Emblem March, and Von Suppe’s Light Cavalry Overture

The concert has been a fabulous showcase for young talent. Past guest concert performers have included Niles North High School, Colorado Christian University, Evanston Township High School, Glenbrook North High School, Warren Township High School, and Northern Illinois University among others.

New Trier’s Thomson has helped developed New Trier High School’s band program into one of the premier high school programs in the country.

Their list of past performances includes The National Concert Band Festival, twice at the Mid- West Band & Orchestra Clinics, and All-State performances. In addition, the Wind Ensemble has won four DownBeat Magazine awards for outstanding high school wind ensemble.
